Pamela Chew, Certified Emotional Health Therapist
Pamela Chew is a certified Emotional Health Therapist and the author of The Power of Emotional Detox — a guide that goes beyond understanding and processing emotions to explore the root causes of recurring emotional patterns, including how past experiences, ancestral trauma and inherited life experiences shape who we are today, and how to overcome them to become a renewed person. When she first approached Wordpecker in 2017, she had written her book in Mandarin and needed it brought to life in English. That translation became her first published book. Years later, she returned with a new mission: to make the book accessible to Malay-speaking communities, particularly healthcare and medical professionals, speakers and counsellors in schools and hospitals across Malaysia and Singapore.
Clarity, Nuance and Meaning — Across Every Language, Culture and Context
Translating a book on emotional health demands more than finding equivalent words — it demands understanding the culture, context and emotional nuance behind every one of them. Every sentence carries psychological intent, and that intent must survive the journey from one language to another, intact.
For the English edition, the challenge was to render Pamela’s Mandarin voice into natural, readable English without losing her warmth or the precision of her therapeutic framework. For the Bahasa Malaysia edition, the stakes were higher still. The book was destined for healthcare and medical professionals, which meant psychological terms had to be accurately aligned with what is already recognised and used in the industry. Where established terms existed, we found them. Where they did not — because some concepts had simply never been formally introduced in Bahasa Malaysia — we had to create them.
Every new term formulated had to be contextually sound, linguistically natural and professionally credible, and approved by a registered psychology counsellor at a government hospital before it could make it into print.

The Strategic Execution
Three Languages. One Voice.
We assembled a dedicated team of three copywriters, two of whom are native Malay speakers, to ensure the translation carried the rhythm and authenticity that comes from an intimate understanding of the language and all it carries. Throughout the process, we worked closely with Pamela herself, staying true to her voice, her intent and the integrity of her original work, while collaborating with her counterpart, a registered psychology counsellor based at a government hospital in Sungai Petani, Kedah, to validate terminology, approve newly formulated terms and ensure the final text met the standards expected by medical and healthcare professionals.
The work extended well beyond translation. We were involved from book framework and tone of voice through to editing and proofreading the entire final colour proof — ensuring that what went to print was as faithful to Pamela’s original vision as it was accurate to the industry it was written for.
The Result
Two Languages. Two Editions. One Consistent Voice.
Daya Detoks Emosi — the Bahasa Malaysia edition of The Power of Emotional Detox — was printed and published in June 2026, available directly through Pamela’s social media channels and positioned for distribution to healthcare and medical professionals in schools and hospitals across Malaysia and Singapore.
For Pamela, it marked the completion of a journey that began nearly a decade earlier with a manuscript in Mandarin and a vision to reach as many people as possible. For us, it is a project that sits close to the heart — proof that the right words, in the right language, can make meaningful work even more meaningful.
